Spirit Vault

privacy policy

Last updated: October 18, 2026

Overview

This Privacy Policy describes how your personal information is handled in Spirit Vault on iOS, iPadOS, macOS and visionOS.

Your recipes stay yours

We do not collect, use, save, or have access to the recipes, notes, Guide Notes, favorites, or anything else you create in Spirit Vault.

Your vault is stored on your device and, if you use iCloud, in your own private iCloud database so it stays in sync across your devices. Your settings are synced the same way. This is accomplished by leveraging Apple’s CloudKit framework. We cannot see anything stored in your iCloud account. Apple’s privacy policy can be found here.

On-device intelligence

Guide Notes, the Spirit Guide, and recipe import use Apple’s on-device language model, and text in the photos and screenshots you import is recognized on your device. None of this is sent to us or to any other service.

Spirit Vault does not ask for access to your photo library. When you import an image, the app only sees the images you choose.

Importing from a link

When you import a recipe from a web link, Spirit Vault downloads that page directly from the website, just as your browser would. That website may see the request in the same way it would see a visit from your browser. The link and the page are never sent to us.

Siri and Spotlight

To let Siri and Spotlight find your recipes, Spirit Vault adds them to your device’s search index. That index stays on your device and is managed by Apple, under Apple’s privacy policy.

App analytics

To help us understand how people use Spirit Vault and to keep improving it, the app sends anonymous usage signals to TelemetryDeck. These record which features are used (for example, opening search or importing a recipe), a few of your display settings, roughly how many recipes are in your vault (as a range such as “11-50”), and your app version, operating system version, device model, and language.

These signals never include your recipes, ingredients, notes, Guide Notes, search text, links, or file names. Each device is counted using an identifier that is hashed before it leaves your device, so it cannot be traced back to you. This data is not used for tracking or advertising and is never sold. TelemetryDeck’s privacy policy can be found here.

You can turn this off at any time in Spirit Vault’s Settings, under Privacy › Share Anonymous Usage Data. The setting syncs through iCloud, so turning it off on one device turns it off on all of them.

We also receive the generic, anonymous statistics that Apple’s App Store Connect provides to developers when you have chosen to share them with app developers. These cannot personally identify you in any way.

Changes to this policy

If we change how Spirit Vault handles your information, we will update this page and the date at the top.
